Experiment 001 · VDX Habitat
Closed-loop hydroponics under different light spectra
In preparationStart date not set
A recirculating hydroponic system in which the same crop is grown under different LED light spectra, with every input and environmental condition logged on VDX Core.

- Question
- In a closed-loop hydroponic system, how does the light spectrum affect plant growth relative to the water and electricity the system uses?
- Hypothesis
- The spectrum changes how much edible biomass is produced per litre of water and per kilowatt-hour, not only how much is produced in total.
- Treatments
- LED spectra to be defined in the protocol
- Measures
- Fresh and dry edible biomass at harvest
- Water added to the closed loop
- Electricity used by lighting and the system
- Air temperature, relative humidity and CO₂
- Nutrient solution pH and electrical conductivity
- Status
- In preparation
